Since joining Marin Horizon School last spring, the Pope-Meyer family—Jacob, Rossie, and their children, fifth grader Ezra and second grader Mateo—have quickly become an active part of our community. Their enthusiasm and involvement have been felt across campus, from the classroom to school events and beyond.
Rossie, who will be joining the Board of Trustees in the upcoming school year, has served on the Board’s Development Committee, and has been a regular presence on class field trips and at school events. Jacob has also embraced the school community, actively participating in events and even leading regular yoga classes for faculty, staff, and parents.
So what drives their community engagement? For them, it’s about being present in their children’s world and fostering meaningful connections. Says Jacob, “They really like seeing us here, and they like our involvement—that feels very reinforcing. And then there’s that shared experience of knowing people who know our children. They have their own unique perspective on them, so that’s always fun for me—to get a sense of how my children are experienced by others.”
In terms of what the Pope-Meyers appreciate about their school, Rossie and Jacob cite the intentionality and care that shape the Marin Horizon experience, from the smallest daily interactions like how each child chooses to be greeted in the morning—whether it’s a handshake, a simple hello, or a hug—to the school’s larger vision and initiatives.
Outside of school, the Pope-Meyers enjoy getting outdoors, making music and dancing, reading fantasy novels, playing sports, and - perhaps most of all - cooking and eating together. For our What’s Your Dumpling event, Jacob and Mateo made delicious potstickers from scratch. Mateo, in fact, loves to bake, invent recipes, and share his creations. He has even turned his hobby into a business. During this past holiday, he baked and sold his homemade flan to his neighborhood. We’ll be looking forward to more culinary treats from the Pope-Meyer family sometime soon!
